Telescope log #2

9:37 a.m. The baby is sleeping and I decided to start practicing with the telescope. I’ve watched enough clips (I think). I clipped the window curtain with two large bobby pins to make a small gap for the telescope. I live on the first floor and it is difficult to find an object to observe other than a leaf and a tree. However, there is a hole in the trees where a window can be seen from a distant block. It’s the only object that’s distinct enough and easily distinguishable from everything else I see, so it’s the only one that will work for me to synchronize what’s seen through the viewfinder and what’s seen through the eyepiece. The baby woke up.

1:16 p.m. The baby is sleeping. Again. I don’t worry about violating the rights of distant neighbors by “spying” on them through the window, because their blinds are down and I can practically only see them. First I set the viewfinder to look at the window and I could see the general picture around it. Then (a bit more difficult) I adjusted the lens to look there as well, first seeing in great detail the blossoms of the linden in front of the block, but after a series of shifts (mostly by luck) I managed to capture the window. I focused the image and began to see even the nails that hold the blinds in place. I went back to the viewfinder and with the adjustment screws I was able to fix what I had misplaced after the lens. Now the same object was visible through both. Yeah! By the way, I used a 1.5x erecting eyepiece and an H20mm eyepiece. I still can’t tell the difference between this lens and the other one in the kit, the Barlow. I also don’t differentiate between the different eyepieces, but I will investigate. That’s it for today.
