Teaching kids how to take care of technology is important, but it can be tricky to make it fun and easy to understand. That’s where picture books come in! Over the years, I’ve found some great books that help teach my students about caring for devices and using tech safely. In this post, I’m sharing 7 picture books that my students really enjoyed while learning these important lessons. The books will be in no particular order, I’ll just write them down below.
Clicker the Cat: Online Children’s Book about Internet Safety

One of my favorite picture books about technology. I use it every school year with the younger students. It’s very educational, with a really good story about 2 very important things – taking care of your tablet so it doesn’t break, and also – finding a balance between playing with your real friends outside and screen time. I recommend this book with both hands!
I also created a couple of book companion teaching resources that include lots and lots of activities for your students on this book. This is a link to the main one – Clicker the cat Book companion with a quiz, 5 exercises and coloring pages , and this is a link to a FREEBIE that you can download immediately, for free – Clicker the cat Technology book Story timeline exercise Kyla Cullinane FREEBIE
Franklin and the Computer (A Franklin TV Storybook)

My own 2 kids love this cute and smart little turtle called Franklin! We have almost every book about it. When I found out there was a book in the huge series about computers, I immediately thought – this is going to my computer lab library at school! And it turns out – my students also loved the story!
The Berenstain Bears’ Computer Trouble

Another favorite of mine! The Berenstain bears are just so fun!
Little Red Hen Builds a Computer

If you want to teach your younger students about what is inside a computer, with lots of fun real life analogies, this is the perfect book!
Webster’s Manners (Webster Technology Book 4)

Definitely a book about how to take care of your devices. An example is – don’t take a bath with your tablet 🙂
Bad Kitty Does Not Like Video Games

Just like in “Clicker the cat”, this book is about the balance between real life (like drawing, reading a book, playing outside) and screen time (video games). It has lovely drawings and it’s definitely a favorite of mine.
Robobaby

This book is so cute! It’s about a robot that receives it’s brother/sister – Robobaby, in a nice little box – unassembled. The robot has to be careful to put together it’s new sibling. I love this book!
These 7 picture books are not only fun to read, but they also teach kids valuable lessons about taking care of technology and being responsible digital citizens. My students loved them, and I hope yours will too! Introducing these ideas through stories can make tech safety and responsibility easier to understand for young learners. Let me know if you have any other favorite books that cover this topic, so I can buy them and include them in this list! Happy reading!
